Klondike Solitaire – Turn 3

Turn 3 is the tournament-style version of Klondike: the stock turns over three cards at a time, and only the top card of each group can be played first. The same 24 stock cards are in play, but reaching the ones you need takes planning.

Turn 3 Tactics

The stock cycles in fixed groups of three, so playing (or not playing) a single waste card shifts which cards surface on the next pass. Strong players deliberately change the “phase” of the stock by playing one card from a group, unlocking cards that were previously buried.

Go through the whole stock once before making optional tableau moves — knowing what is buried tells you which foundations you can afford to build early. If Turn 3 feels punishing, sharpen your fundamentals in Turn 1 first, or study the strategy guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can I only play the top card of the three?

That is the core Turn 3 rule: the three drawn cards fan on the waste with only the last one available. Playing it exposes the card beneath.

How many times can I go through the stock?

As many times as you need — the waste is flipped back into the stock whenever it runs out.
